Time Line Project

The 2nd graders were given a big assignment 3 weeks ago: each child was to create a timeline of his/her life.  The time line was to be 8 4x6 index cards illustrating and describing 8 events in their lives.  The 9th card was the decorative title card.

Kirsten worked very hard on her project and we're so proud of her diligence.  She cut and glued photos and wrote 2-3 sentences next to each one.  This was a lot of work for every kid in 2nd grade, I have no doubt, but for Kirsten it took great effort, concentration and perseverance. There were a few times I wanted to call Mrs. Cox and ask for an exemption from the project but persistence paid off and Kirsten's project is beautiful.

Here is the end result:
Her first event was her cleft palate repair. She wrote "I was born in Plano, TX, on October 18, 2000. When I was 10 months old the doctor fixed a hold in my mouth." The photo is of her after surgery.
Event #2 is when she met my maternal grandmother for the first time when she visited from South Africa. Kirsten wrote "I met my great grandmother when I was 1."  The photo is of my Gran, my Mom, and me holding Kirsten who is very distracted by a bee flying around the arbor in my parents' backyard. We laughed so hard that afternoon when we were trying to get our only chance at a photo of 4 generations!

Event #3 is February 13, 2003. Kirsten wrote, "I got a new baby sister. I did not like her because she cried a lot." Poor Katelyn had colic. No bueno!! The photo is of 2 year old Kirsten trying to stick a pacifier in Katelyn's mouth.
Event #4 is June 20, 2003. When Kirsten was 2 and Katelyn 4 months we moved to NJ.  The card reads, "We moved to New Jersey for 2 years. Here I am in New York."  The photo is hilarious; it's of Kirsten in Battery Park reading the map.

Event #5 is Josh's birth.  Kirsten wrote "I got a new brother when I was 6. He screamed a lot."  The photo is so cute; it's Kirsten holding Josh who is screaming.  I always laugh when I see his baby photos. He was a giant.  His shoulders were so broad and he has spider monkey arms.  Praise the Lord for c-sections!

Card #6 is Kirsten and Katelyn at the beach in FL in 2008. Kirsten wrote "We went to the beach with dad's family. We went swimming and looked for seashells."
Event #7 is Kirsten in her dance outfit. She wrote "January 5, 2009.  I started Hip Hop dance class. I loved the fun music."

And the last card is a photo of her hot pink cast with her friends' names all over it. She wrote "March 23, 2009 I broke my elbow when I fell.  I couldn't get my arm wet. I was mad."

Kirsten, we are so proud of all your hard work!
