If you haven't figured it out by now, our family LOVES birthdays!!! I think it all stems from me at 35 years of age still loving my bday as if I was 5. So just because we had Kirsten's party on Saturday, the day before her bday, there was no reason to omit celebration the following day on her actual bday.
Before church, the 4 of us presented her with gifts. It is so much fun to have all 5 of us piled into our bed half awake singing "Happy Birthday" and excitedly presenting our gifts to Kirsten. Katelyn felt she had the best gift of all (she was right) so she wanted to give her gift last so others wouldn't get their feelings hurt when Kirsten put their gifts aside and continued to gloat over Katelyn's... Katelyn gave her the Webkinz Bottlenose Dolphin. The rest of us gave her accessories for her newly painted room. She has a beach theme so her gifts included a chinese lantern to hang in her bathroom, a capis shell wind chime to hang by her window, a cushion, soap dispenser, and toothbrush holder. Her main present was a bicycle but that arrived later in the day.
Before church I asked her to bring her 3 new Webkinz (she received Alley Cat from Granny and Grandpa and Citris Dragon from a friend at her party. She dragged her beanbag chair downstairs and sat holding her stuffed animals. This kid is hilarious!
The morning of any bday in our home we eat cupcakes for breakfast. I managed to stuff a few grapes down them so their Sunday School teachers weren't completely beat down by their sugar high. At church Kirsten announced to anyone who would listen that it was her birthday. After church she chose Macaroni Grill for lunch bc she LOVES "pisgetti" as she calls it. She was all excited that the waiters were going to sing "Happy Birthday" to her until their opera singer handed her a gladiola and sang "Happy Birthday" opera style in Italian. I think Kirsten's words were, "It was freaky!" She is hilarious! But the chocolate cake complete with a candle and bowl of ice cream that comes with a kid's meal quickly distracted her.
After lunch we picked up her bike from Toys R Us.... For $10 they will assemble it for you, a price Brad Leffler is more than willing to pay if he does not have to read even one page of instructions written by a foreigner and translated poorly into English. What is with that anyway???
Kirsten rode her bike all afternoon and graciously shared it with Katelyn. All in all it was a wonderful birthday. Thank you to all who helped make it so special!
Oh, and Katelyn finally lost her "Fang" as we all came to affectionally call it. So the Tooth Fairy came last night.
