This is how it works. Tea Parties are spur of the moment. There is no planning ahead in terms of grocery shopping. We eat what we have in the house. Tea Parties typically take place on a Sunday afternoon or sometimes in place of Sunday dinner. I pick the main dish and everyone else picks another food to add to the meal. Of course this means we have an unusual combination of food. Of course, we drink tea from fine china cups. Even Josh participates although he drinks out of a heavy duty mug. No need to risk china on our little boy quite yet. We also speak with English accents and everyone makes up a name. Usually Mickey Mouse (Kirsten), A mean Dog (Josh), Mr. Hogsbottom (Brad), Mrs. Pigsnout (me) and a princess (Katelyn) are present.
Tonight I served chicken pockets... a new recipe that was a cream cheese chicken mixture baked inside a cresent roll (and incidentally, I won't be making them again... yuck). We also had popcorn, canteloupe, craisins, chips and salsa, and fortune cookies for dessert.
I hope as the kids get older that we can have "real" tea parties with cucumber sandwiches and scones but for now, this will surfice. The kids think it's wonderful. Here are some pictures from tonight's tea party.
