I am Thankful

We had such a lovely Thanksgiving holiday.  We spent Wednesday evening with Brad's Dad's family.  Brad's uncle from California was there as well as cousins and their children. We ate delicious fried chicken, mashed potatoes, dried okra, and other fixin's as we say in Texas, and laughed a lot.  It was so much fun.

On Thursday we visited Mema and Joe, Brad's grandmother and her husband, in the hospital.  Mema was recently diagnosed with lymphoma so is having chemo.  She was in good spirits and spunky as always.  I am sure we wore her out.  The kids played with the buttons on the spare bed in her room, kept pulling the curtain around the bed, and Kirsten kept asking why she couldn't squeeze the IV bag. There was no dull moment!

Afterwards we went to the Lefflers for lunch. As always, the food was delish!!  We had fun visiting with Brad's sister and husband and Brad's parents.  And the cousins had a great time together.  We spent the night with the Lefflers and drove home on Friday to decorate our house for Christmas.

I LOVE Christmas. It always makes me so happy to pull out all the decorations and ornaments.  One of my favorite activities is decorating the Christmas tree.  My family has a wonderful tradition of ornament giving each each.  My parents buy each of us an ornament that signfies something that happened to or something we did that year.  So the year we went to the beach, Kirsten's ornament was a bucket and spade filled with sand.  Last year we went to Pine Cove Family Camp so Brad's ornament was a log cabin with Pine Cove beautifully printed on it.  You get the idea. Brad and I have continued this tradition with our family so each year we get 10 new ornaments for our tree. It's so much fun to pull each ornament out and reminisce about the memories it signifies.

This morning we worshiped together as a family, ate lunch at Macaroni Grill which is always delicious (Lobster Ravioli... yummmm), and finished decorating the house and putting away the boxes that held all the Christmas decor.  Tonight after dinner we sat down as a family to watch "Merry Madagasgar" and eat buttery boy scouts popcorn. Yum... Are you noticing a pattern of food mentionings? hmmmm

All this blogging about my weekend makes me think of the things I'm grateful for.  There are so many....  A few include:

  • My Savoir, Jesus Christ whose birthday we will celebrate soon
  • My wonderful husband who works hard to support our family and who loves us all very much.
  • Kirsten and her spunk. She makes me laugh.
  • Katelyn and her sweet spirit.  She is always doing something kind.
  • Josh and his happy smile. He always wants to make sure we're all happy.  He asks, "You have a happy face, Mommy? I have happy face."
  • Extended family that loves the Lord - mine and Brad's.  What a blessing to both come from families that love and serve the Lord.
  • Grandmommy's cornbread dressing that Brad's mom makes for Thanksgiving and Christmas every year. It's delicious!  I could eat the entire 9x13!!!  I didn't by the way! But I did eat a good portion of it!
  • Only 3 more weeks of school before we have another break. I love having my kids home with me. Yes, we have the usual sibling rivalry but overall it's loads of fun and less hectic.
Happy Thanksgiving!
