On Friday at our moms' group at church we celebrated Veteran's Day. What a fabulous morning! Congressman Sam Johnson shared about his time as a POW in Vietnam. He shared about how this experience strengthened his faith in the Lord.
Several other veterans were in attendance as well... even the dads of a few of our moms came. It was so special. At one point, during Lee Greenwood's "I'm Proud to be an American" video, all the moms with veterans in their families walked up to the stage and put a red, white or blue flag bearing the vet's name in a container.
But the most touching moment for me was Pledging Allegiance to the Flag with my little girl standing next to me. Kirsten came home sick from school yesterday and this morning she hadn't been fever free for quite 24 hours so she came with me to Mom2Mom. When two veterans went onto the stage to lead The Pledge, Kirsten stood next to me and put her little hand over her heart and recited the Pledge. It was beautiful!
I am so grateful to the Lord for moving my family to this incredible country 22 years ago. I know our country is not without its faults. But I truly am proud to be an American.
